This position is located in the Division of Facility Management at a NPS unit. The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment. The incumbent of the position is required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.

Duties

MAJOR DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Operates gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, wheel loader, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Operates motor grader up to and including the Caterpillar 16/160 or John Deer 772 (or equivalent), with up to 16-foot blade; and attachments such as but not limited to scarifier, nose plow, wobble wheel compactors, snow wing, side boom mower, sloper attachment and rear mounted rippers. Operates dozer up to and including a Caterpillar D-9 (or equivalent) to spread soil and gravel, excavations, erosion, repairs, constructing fire breaks with fire plow attachments; using ripper attachment to cut rocks and hard surfaces; trail construction and repair; excavating and stockpiling pit and fill material, constructing drainage channels and water bars; barricading unauthorized vehicle accesses, snow and ice removal, constructing temporary and permanent roads, demolishing structures, landscaping and property restoration. Hauls debris, stone, gravel and soil as required; uses pickup trucks, dump trucks or truck tractor with belly or side dump trailers for the purpose of moving dirt, blacktop and coarse materials for roadway and shoulder, hauling riprap, barriers, and logs. for transportation of personnel and equipment to job sites Performs daily preventative maintenance, assigned equipment and performs limited field repairs, generally without direct supervision. May be called on to assist mechanics in accomplishing all types of mechanical repairs to equipment. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the person selected for the position is from outside the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses under the Federal Travel Regulations. POSSESS A CLASS A CDL LICENSE WITH NO AIR BRAKES OR TRANSMISSION RESTRICTIONS. OPERATIONS OF MOTOR VEHICHLES. WORK PRACTICES. ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS, ETC. ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY. ABILITY TO OPERATE SAFELY. RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY.
