This position is for a Motor Vehicle Operator assigned to the Transportation Section of the Building Maintenance Unit at the Miami VA Healthcare System (MVAHS), Engineering Service.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Deal effectively with people in a courteous/hospitable manner.
Independently arrange for routine maintenance of vehicles and informs the supervisor of these repairs.
Possess reading, writing and math skills to correctly read/interpret maps, document mileage logs, gas logs and any accident that may occur during daily operation of government vehicles.
Selecting routes, obeying all traffic laws and following safety regulations.
Completing work after receiving initial oral or written instructions.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Based on the services needs

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Employee must be in good physical condition and have 20/20 vision with or without corrective eyewear. Medium to high physical effort is needed in maneuvering vehicles weighing up to 26,000 lb., especially when backing up these vehicles. Employee will be required to lift moderate weights as they assist patients or staff into and out of the vehicles and may be required to make emergency repairs such as changing tires, installing emergency fan belts or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways. Work will require walking, bending and sitting for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughout a Government installation or establishment. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. Drivers operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
