About the Position: Fort Huachuca is a beautiful installation located adjacent to the Huachuca (thunder) Mountains. The Fort Huachuca with Defense Health Agency (DHA) is home to approximately 30 medical providers, over 90 Soldiers and 230 civilians and contractors. In addition to the main health center, we also provide care at three outlying clinics on the installation. This organization provides medical support for over 13,000 beneficiaries.

Duties

Participate in evaluation of existing health hazards. Enter data into Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database. Perform sampling using standard methods to establish the nature and degree of hazards. Perform respirator fit testing, worker education and training on respirator selection, usage and care. Calibrate industrial hygiene (IH)equipment, checking for compliance with existing calibration schedules. Perform minor repairs of equipment or ships equipment requiring major overhauls. Maintain records associated with maintenance and calibration of equipment. Independently inspects work areas; conducts surveys; analyzes findings; prepares reports; maintains industrial hygiene (IH) equipment; and assists with worker education training.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • May spend up to 10% of the time in travel or TDY status.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) Certification within 6 month of hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.

To qualify for the GS-07 you must: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrating the use of safety equipment, applying measures designed to help protect workers, identifying a hazardous work environment, evaluating actions taken to correct health inspection violations, assisting with Industrial Hygiene equipment testing and inputting test data into a computerized system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Health & Safety. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Qualifications for the GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning or organizing studies or surveys, preparing equipment for inspections and preparing written reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as occupational health, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
