About the Position: This position is located on Fort Detrick and is part of the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC). The LRC provides professional and timely base operational logistics programs and services that enable readiness support to the Garrison, mission partners, and other installation agencies. Fort Detrick is located within Frederick city limits, and is within driving of historical sites, sporting venues, fine restaurants, casual dining, and outlet shopping malls.

Duties

Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments of bulk, bin materials, and equipment. Assembles items, grouping material according to receiving vouchers. Reports overages, shortages, and damaged items in accordance with established procedures. Processes shipping documents received to include signing receipts. Annotates boxes with correct stock numbers, number of items, sizes, and other pertinent information. Unpacks and breaks-down shipments as required and stocks in designated areas. Operates government vehicles from 1 ? to 5-ton capacity to pick-up and deliver supplies and equipment. Conducts warehouse inventories which includes maintaining tally lists during counting operations. Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift truck in order to lift loads weighing under 10,000 pounds.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Required to pass and maintain forklift operation certification within 6 months.
  • Required to possess a valid state?s driver?s license; must pass Army approved defensive driving certification course.
  • Successful completion of classroom or on the job training covering hazardous material handling, and annual renewal training
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment, Tier - 1.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort You will stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and will bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. You may be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time, and lift and/or carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Moderate physical effort is used in operating the forklift hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the forklift, and while raising, lowering, and tilting loads to be moved. You must meet all physical requirements to work in confined areas while reaching, pulling, and placing stock in storage racks in awkward positions. Work Conditions Inside work performed may be in areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Work outside will be performed in prevailing weather conditions, and while handling materials you may be exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and other injuries. May handle boxes that contain hazardous materials. You are also subject to injury while operating the forklift or working with a mechanical conveyor system. You may be required to wear safety equipment, which is often hot and uncomfortable. Must meet all physical requirements to work in confined areas while reaching/pulling/placing stocks in racks in awkward positions. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a Wage Grade (WG) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
