This position is located at the National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) and will be part of the Human Dimensions Unit, which conducts social science research for the NWRC and the Wildlife Services (WS) Program.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to: Plan and carry out projects for collecting detailed social science data to address social factors encountered while carrying out NWRC mission. Plan and prepare quantitative and qualitative analysis of social science data. Plan and prepare interpretative reports and publication resulting from the analyses of social science data. Conduct analysis in human-wildlife conflicts using social science concepts, principles, practices, and methodology. Use statistical software to conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Conceptualize, organize, and create presentations to NWRC researchers, WS personnel, and stakeholders to disseminate research findings and activities. Collect and read pertinent scientific literature with bearing upon research studies; glean concepts, methods, and relevant procedures for use in research. Compose text explaining the conduct of project research, as well as results and discussion of findings, for the preparation of technical reports and refereed manuscripts.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the basic requirement applicants must also possess: FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Experience using a variety of research methods and techniques in the social sciences, with a focus on human-wildlife conflicts or interactions. Experience in the coordination and oversight of projects in human dimensions of wildlife research, in order to interpret and explain trends and better define interrelationships among social factors. Experience implementing strategies, objectives, and performance measures for social science studies, focused on human-wildlife conflicts or interactions. Experience communicating research findings through peer-reviewed, scientific publications and/or presentations to diverse stakeholders. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required: This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified. This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
