The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work. - Performs work. Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates integrated ground or airborne electronics systems such as fire control, ballistic missile control, missile guidance, air traffic control, automatic test equipment, dead reckoning navigation or bombing-navigation systems. - Sets up and operates software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems. - Uses and maintains hand and power tools, precision measurement tools, and test equipment, such as O-scopes, pulse generators, power supplies, resistance decades, electrostatic field meters, digital/analog multimeters, precision measurement tools and test equipment, gas leak detectors, resistivity meter, electronic control test set, explosive set, circuitry test set, ESD meter, VOM meters, micrometers, torque wrenches, soldering irons, and other trade tools and equipment. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains inspections and maintenance records.

  • May be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
  • May be required to possess a valid operators license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
  • May be required to obtain a SECRET clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas.
  • Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 - Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of a Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic Leader without More than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed at missile sites, or in aircraft, sometimes outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
