This position is located off-site on Hampton Street, Columbia SC. It is not located at the main facility.
Duties
The facility provides care to approximately 91,000 veterans in the midlands and upstate SC. CBOCs are located in Anderson, Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Rock Hill, and provide primary care, mental health, and telemedicine services. Dorn VAMC is affiliated with the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine and provides teaching services for students and residents. USC is the state's flagship research university with Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, and an active Graduate School.
Columbia, SC is a wonderful place to live and work. A small-town atmosphere within a metropolitan city, known for its museums, restaurants, and the University of SC. Columbia offers four-season outdoor activity with several championship golf courses in the area and is a short drive from the mountains and the beach. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Review incoming community care consults for clinical appropriateness and review identified treatment plan and route to the corresponding subspecialty.
Review requests for additional services from community vendors to ensure appropriateness.
Update treatment plans upon completion of work in the community.
Correspond with community dentists to ensure care is delivered appropriately.
Completes focused review of community provider treatment and claims.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Subject to change based on agency need)

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Preferred Experience:
Extensive experience completing comprehensive treatment plans and coordinating among several providers to ensure timely care is delivered.
Documenting completed treatment and pending treatment.
Four years of consult/referral review processing applying standardized criteria for referral to the community.
Ten years dental practice.
Five years community care experience.
Three years processing community care consults.

Physical Requirements: Light carrying, under 15 pounds; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.
