About the Position: The position is located at U.S. Army Garrison-Miami, part of the Installation Management Command (IMCOM), which is dedicated to providing Service members and their families a high quality of life and ensuring good stewardship in our host community. NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.

Duties

Screen Employees, visitors, and contractors personnel for visitor access on military installations. Control, prepares, issues identification badges, cars, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel and visitor on the installation. When required, make independent decisions regarding the use of deadly force, operate active vehicle barriers and alert appropriate official of apparent security violation. Conduct traffic stops at the Installation Access Control Points for safety and security checks. Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries, by providing guidance and information on security regulations and procedures. Conduct vehicle searches/inspections in accordance with standing operating procedures. Inspect containers, personal property documents on private property, and commercial and government vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position will require the incumbent to pass the primary physical fitness/agility test (PAT) within 30 days of employment and an annual one thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certification in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Security Guard training.
