A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay. Booker T. Washington National Monument is seeking a permanent Maintenance Worker. Park housing is not available, but housing is available in several communities close to the park. Moving costs will not be provided.

Duties

This position provides maintenance assistance in a variety of areas including recurring buildings, trails, grounds, and/or utility maintenance. Duties to include carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical, custodial/labor, and motor vehicle operation. Computer use for email will be required. Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures. Ability to use simple hand tools. Reports discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items. Ability to operate light vehicles and equipment such as pick-up truck and fork lift.
