About the Position: Serves as a Cook, assisting the Cook-Steward or higher grade Cook by performing tasks related to the preparation and cooking of foods. NOTE: This position is a Permanent, Full-Time Seasonal Appointment.

Duties

Weigh and/or measure food portions and ingredients. Operate, breakdown, and/or clean food service equipment. Practice safety protocols while performing cook duties in hazardous working conditions. Recommend cooking techniques. Assist management in making food purchases and/or menu decisions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have clinical titer testing or proof of immunity for Hepatitis B and a Tuberculosis (TB) screening.
  • Pre-employment physical required with annual physicals thereafter.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver?s license.
  • Is responsible for complying with safety procedures and regulations applicable to this position in accordance with existing safety policies.
  • During lay-up periods from dredging operations may be utilized and assigned to other essential work in the District, such as repairs and maintenance of plant at Service Base according to individual qualifications and skills.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Incumbent will be required to wear employer-provided uniforms. Clean and properly maintained uniforms promote health and safety, professionalism and distinguish galley employees from others.

Working Conditions: Kitchens are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. There is exposure to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking. There is danger from falling on floors that have been freshly mopped or where food has spilled; burns from steam or hot foods; cuts from knives and electrical machines; exposure to extremes in temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators from the warm kitchens.
