About the Position: This position is located with the Religious Support Office, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.
This is an excepted service appointment. If a current federal employee with career or career-conditional status is hired for the position, the employee will be required to sign a memorandum of understanding prior to being converted to the excepted service.
Duties
Responsible for comprehensive program for at least one specific faith group on small or medium Installation, and may have responsibility or oversight for others as assigned.
Ensures that soldiers, reservists, authorized civilians, and family members are afforded religious education programs, which allow them to exercise their religious beliefs regardless of faith group.
Advises Garrison Chaplain and senior faith group Chaplain on small or medium installations Religious Education and youth programs.
Recommends courses of action to improve programming. Executes policies from higher headquarters and initiates actions necessary to implement policy for religious education and youth ministry.
Assesses resource needs and deficits in order to meet the needs of religious education programming.
Provide marketing and advertising for emphasis on religious education and youth ministry.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A CNACI security clearance is required for working with children for this position (Childcare background check)
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Two year probationary period.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Secret Security Clearance is required for the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Education minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Religious Education (or spiritual formation). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Religious Education (or spiritual formation). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
AND
Specialize experience that you possess the ability to perform the work of a Director Religious Education at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Experience is defined as at least two years of professional experience leading a religion-based education program.
