The Office of Inspector General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. The OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. The OIG carries out its mission by issuing audit reports, evaluations, and management advisories with findings and recommendations to improve program delivery and performance.
Duties
This position is located in the Office of Inspector General, Principal Assistant Inspector General for Auditing and Evaluation, Assistant Inspector General for Financial Audits.

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the BASIC REQUIREMENTS & SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.
Basic Requirements for Performance Auditors
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
ANDSPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
GS-14: To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
My specialized experience includes: experience conducting performance audits to determine either economy, efficiency, effectiveness or compliance with the Generally Accepted Auditing Standards; modifying objectives, work plans, guidelines, scope, methods, staff requirements, and time schedules to meet project needs; conducting interviews, briefings and exit conferences to acquire/exchange information or facts needed to complete audit assignments or influence acceptance of audit findings and to present findings and recommendations to management officials; designing and conducting comprehensive management studies; preparing long-range and short-range planning guidance; conducting comprehensive studies requiring the application of advanced analytical and statistical methods and techniques; and, preparing and/or reviewing written reports, work papers and other documents in order to appropriately document audit findings and results.
