If selected, you will provide supervision of the paralegals and technical support to SEC legal staff engaged in the development and prosecution of administrative, civil, and criminal contempt cases in violation of federal securities laws.

Duties

Serves as a supervisor and senior paralegal specialist providing support for an SEC Organization. Provides supervision for assigned unit personnel engaged in providing paralegal support for the assigned SEC organization. Utilize the most recent technological advances and databases; maintain proper control of all legal exhibits and documents; and serve as a technical resource for the assigned attorneys. Represents the office for issues relating to the paralegal operations in meetings with staff of other federal agencies and the securities industry. Conducts the most complex research; develops substantive summaries; drafts a wide variety of legal documents; interviews witnesses; reviews pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Provides trial support for the most complex and high profile cases; resolves complex problems associated with judgments and collections.

  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
  • This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.
  • Existing Participants in the SEC?s Remote Telework Program are eligible to apply for this position. If selected, management will evaluate and communicate whether the position will allow for continued participation in Remote Telework.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-12 level. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: SK-13: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-12 level: Specialized experience all of the following: (1) Providing daily oversight and direction to paralegal staff, including planning and assigning work, setting priorities, establishing performance expectations, training and evaluating staff; (2) Providing advice and counsel to employees relative to work administrative matters, including workload prioritization and meeting deadlines; (3) Designing professional development opportunities, and assists managers with allocating administrative recourses; prepares for hearings and court appearances by briefing attorneys or administrative law judges by assembling, arranging and managing case files, documents, and exhibits; (4) Conducting factual and legal research; and (5) Serving as a technical expert and senior paralegal to staff in the development of legal cases, including preparing for trial and providing support at trial.
