The Employee Occupational Health (EOH) RN works toward the goals and responsibilities of Employee & Occupational Health Services including employee vaccinations/immunizations; exposure management, follow-up, and treatment; ergonomic program assessments and follow-up care; other employee wellness programs; and mandated surveillance exams. Work will include some clinical evaluations as well as administrative responsibilities.

Duties

Major Duties: Support the coordination of and clinical participation in the medical screening and surveillance of infection control related programs including the data management and reporting Play a key role in the ongoing systematic evaluation and improvement of the quality and effectiveness of care and services in EOH Perform clinical care including: vaccinations, employee exposure evaluation, respiratory protection medical clearances, consultations regarding tuberculosis testing and status, evaluation of employee work-related injuries or illnesses and make referrals as necessary. Serve as OHRS Administrator, training EOH practitioners prior to providing access & serving as a resource to all EOH staff using OHRS Serve as Butler VA Healthcare's Influenza Vaccination Program coordinator, which includes ensuring all remote locations have an assigned Flu-champion prior to rolling out vaccinations for the season Have knowledge base of indications and protocols for the following vaccines: Tdap, TD, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, MMR & Varicella. Knowledgeable about the routes of transmission, prevention, and treatment for Hepatitis A, B, and C. Serve as workman's compensation liaison for workplace illnesses and injuries Administer first aid, medications and treatments authorized by a medical provider (MD/NP/PA) in accordance with organizational policy and procedure. Be responsible for exposure investigations, following protocols for employees with C-Difficile, chickenpox, measles, meningitis, mumps, MRSA, bed bugs, shingles, scabies, lice & conjunctivitis, and others. Maintains spread sheets of post-exposure incidents. Responsible for Notification of all employees identified as potentially exposed, ordering baseline and follow-up labs, documenting care provided and reporting incidents to Infection Control Committee. Manage bloodborne pathogen exposures as the care Program Manager: Providing OSHA required post exposure letters of opinion in less than 15 days' time from exposure as well as maintaining spread sheet of follow-up protocol screening & reminders. Demonstrate ability to use specialized medical equipment and techniques such as oxygen, AED, basic life support, audiometer and color vision assessment tools if required Contribute to the administrative needs of the clinic which could include ordering supplies, managing leave requests, filing, data entry, computer/IT needs of the clinic. Document in a timely manner in the electronic and paper employee record system Initiate and maintain accurate tracking systems, including all exposures, needlesticks, tuberculosis positive, ergonomics cases. Prepare reports, documents, statistical surveys and other data utilizing spreadsheets and charts. Serve as an educational resource for employees on occupational health issues Establishes Veteran's health records to include registry examination data, treatment, updates, and retains and modifies these records subject to retention and disposition policies regulated by Records Control Schedule (RCS)10-1. Keeps VA facility staff informed of any policy or procedural changes to the Environmental Health programs. Ensures compliance with federal regulations and directives with respect to the Environmental Health programs. Will maintain the Veteran Integrated Registry Platform and enter data as needed for tracking status of exams. Keeps EH clinician and their administrative staff informed on all matters pertaining to daily office functioning and alerts the EH clinician and other administrative staff on concerns related to office management. Ensures flow-up for the EH clinician and other appropriate VA staff re: outstanding correspondence, initiatives, and meetings. Oversees and monitors the regular tracking of staff education and training. Works closely with other administrative staff and other offices within the Butler VA Medical Center, the VISN and VACO to coordinate interoffice meetings and communications. Prepares summary reports, memorandums, official letters, etc., in response to requirements or tasks on behalf of the EH clinician or designee. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Three years Occupational Health, Public Health, Infection Control or Urgent care Three years nursing experience with at least two years as a clinical RN Certification in related field Experience with CPRS or another electronic health record system Computer skill: basic keyboarding or typing skills, competency with Word, Excel and Outlook Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
