The position is located at the Erie VA Medical Center. The Medical Administrative Assistant - Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) is aligned within the Business Operations service line (VISN 4) and has delegated authority and responsibility to exercise the Medical Center Director's prerogative in medical administrative matters occurring during the tour of duty; represents and acts on behalf of the Medical Center Director in (non-policy making) administrative matters.
Duties
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Rotating Shifts: Includes Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays; tour of duty to be determined by supervisor based on organizational needs.

The incumbent functions as the highest administrative authority during irregular tours: after normal duty hours, including rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays in accordance with the needs of the medical center. The position cannot be abandoned and requires working overtime, as needed to maintain coverage during non-business hours.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Interpreting Federal/State laws in healthcare;
Determining Financial obligations or Determining Veterans Financial obligations;
Call back processes;
Patient processing;
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Interpreting Federal/State laws in healthcare,
Determining Financial obligations or Determining Veterans Financial obligations;
Call back processes;
Patient processing;
Development of correspondence and reports,
Preparation of reports/presentations,
Experience with medical center admission, transfer, and referral procedures
Handling medical center electronica database systems.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.
