You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the COMMANDER, NAVY INSTALLATIONS COMMAND of NAVBASE KITSAP SEC DET. The salary range for GS-06 is $46,736 to $60,753. The salary range for GS-05 is $41,925 to $54,508.

Duties

You will enforce laws, regulations, and statutes for the protection of life, property, and rights of individuals. You will take statements from victims, suspects, and witnesses to clarify conflicting information. You will compile evidence in accordance with mandated procedures. You will control access to secure areas by determining which vehicles or personnel have credentials for entry. You will detain those who violate rules, regulations, and pertinent laws on public or private property. You will investigate circumstances or individuals that appear unusual or suspicious to prevent crime.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

• You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry required firearms. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT).
• You will be required to pass required training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Uniform Police Training Program (FLETC - UPTP) at the GS5 level, or have a FLETC UPTP certificate at the GS6 level.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Apprehending personnel by the use of force or police equipment (i.e., firearms, taser, Oleoresin Capsicum(OS) spray); 2) Preparing police reports concerning incidents and actions taken; and 3) Responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to state and federal laws. Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy. Education

To qualify for the GS-5, the following education may be substituted for specialized experience requirement:

Successful completion of a four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program.

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education and required experience must equal 100% of the total requirement.
