This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce, Positions in Science Technology, engineering or Mathematics, to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Collaborate productively with scientists and veterinary services employees to ensure research operations involving ionizing and non-ionizing procedures continue successfully by providing hands-on support. Oversees and conducts environmental sampling for contamination from sources or from improperly conducted laboratory operations. Evaluates potential contamination of equipment prior to maintenance or disposal. Initiates, reviews, updates, and maintains regulations, SOPs, and protocols for the health physics program. Perform required administrative procedures such as licensing renewals, terminations, and transfers of radioactive material as dictated by U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and DoD?s Defense Health Agency.

  • This position requires a secret clearance.
  • A three year probationary period may be required.

Who May Apply: US Citizens WRAIR is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DB-03 pay band is equivalent to the GS-13 Step 01 to GS-14 Step 10 level. In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within the pay band equivalent, may not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the pay band will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualification Requirements Basic Requirement: A Degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR A combination of education and experience which includes courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR A certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts AND your license or certification.) In addition to the minimum education requirement applicants must also meet the following: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing health physics expertise in an academic and research setting; 2) Providing expert advice and/or corrective actions on ionizing radiation and radioactive decommissioning activities; AND 3) Collaboration with scientists to enhance research initiatives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
