About the Position: This is a cook position WG-7404-06 position with Army Community Hospital Evans, located in Fort Carson, Colorado.
Duties
Examine food for quality and freshness before preparation.
Communicate with supervisor/dispatcher in accordance with established procedures and timetables.
Operate a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources.
Prepare high quality foods to order in a professional manner.
Use knowledge of cooking procedures used for preparing regular and diet meals.
Verify ingredients provided against computer printed recipes.
Stock food on the line between regular meal periods.
Perform simplified tasks concerned with the preparation (i.e. cooking/reheating) of food.
Operate and/or clean a wide variety of food service equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- This is an inclement Weather Essential position. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cooks ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience in the following: utilizing measurements and weights to follow recipe worksheets for appropriate food portions/ingredients of prepared items such as, cooked pasta or vegetables, complex salads, relishes and salad dressings, fruits or other uncooked food items and preserving a salad bar in a large hospital in accordance with established procedures. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work requires continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in kitchen areas that are well lighted but often hot and noisy. Employee is exposed to steam, fumes and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering and exiting walk-in refrigeration and freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Employee is subject to possible cuts from knives and to burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water.
