About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Command Inspector General for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Presidio of Monterey (TRADOC), encompassing a supported population of 33,000 active military, family members and retirees.

Duties

Provides technical guidance and advice to staff members in conducting investigations, inquiries an assistance reviews. Identifies violations of federal, military, or civil laws, regulations, or policies, and determines situations or conditions, which require investigation. Develops investigations and/or inquiry plans for an identified problem or stated allegation. Prepares clear, concise, accurate, unbiased reports of investigation and draws conclusions, which are supported by technically, or legally substantiated evidence. Provides technical guidance and oversight of all general, special, and follow-up inspections of command activities. Develops and annual IG inspection plan and advises and guides inspectors in their inspection of specific areas. Ensures all inspection concepts adequately met regulatory requirement and the desires of the Commander. Develops an inspection plan outlining objectives, general approaches, and time frames. Advises technical and support employees in grades GS-09 through GS-12, military (Sergeants First Class through Field Grade Officers). Determines manning requirements and develops organization force structure to obtain maximum utilization of human resources. Maintains effective management-employee communication assisting employees in improving their performance Conducts internal training, as required. Attends Command briefings, meetings, and conferences with authority to establish or present the position of the Presidio of Monterey Office of the Inspector General Monitors the financial management and management assistance functions for the IG program budget to ensure efficient use of resources. Performs Vulnerability Assessments and ensures adequate internal control systems are developed so government resources are effectively managed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain an Inspector General (IG) certificate from the Inspector General School upon completion of the three-week IG Training.
  • All Army Civilian IGs must attend the IG advanced course every five years as part of CP 55 and as part of functional training for all 1801-series personnel.
