This Motor Vehicle Operator position is located within the Facilities Management Service at the Clarksburg, West Virginia VA Medical Center. The main focus of this position is that of a motor coach operator/driver with collateral duties in support of Community Based Outpatient Center (CBOCs).

Duties

Receiving work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies. Performing operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Maintaining records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position. Performs other related duties as assigned. Arriving at and departing from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times. Reading installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Enforcing passenger safety and seatbelt use. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: the incumbent is required to lift heavy objects while loading and unloading cargo. Moderate exertion is required in lifting 40/80 pound salt bags occasionally. Mounting snow removal attachments onto trucks and tractors. The operator assists patients in and out of vehicles, securing mobility aids in preparation for transit. The position requires prolonged periods of driving, sometimes in times of traffic congestion, and the operator must be constantly alert and aware of his/her surroundings. Occasional moderate to heavy lifting is required to assist and load patients into litter vans.
