This position is located at Katmai National Park and Preserve in the Facilities Division. This is a permanent, career or career-conditional position in the competitive service. This is a career-seasonal position. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately March - October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Major Duties include but are not limited to: Transporting and assisting scientific parties in locating intended sites in order that research can be conducted. Loading and off-loading supplies and equipment needed to conduct research. Overseeing and managing all aspects of operations, such as proper navigational operations, safety of cargo and personnel, proper loading of cargo, determinations as to whether or not to operate in certain sea and/or weather conditions. Conducting periodic inspections of vessel and recommending repairs to be made during annual yard haul-outs. Supervising and inspecting yard work while in progress. Maintaining vessel in good, safe operating condition by making minor adjustments and repairs as needed. Requesting fuel, oil and all parts and supplies as necessary for vessel operations. Picking up incoming supplies and equipment and is responsible for delivery to and loading aboard vessel. Responsible for off-loading supplies and equipment from vessel at destination points.
