You will serve as a TOOL ROOM MECHANIC in the EXPEDITIONARY MAINTENANCE CENTER of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING AND EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE CENTER.
Duties
You will follow established tool and equipment repair practices to maintain a safe work area for employees.
You read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and illustrated parts breakdowns to evaluate and repair tools and equipment.
Relay safety instructions to verify safe operation of tool and equipment.
Perform maintenance on tools and equipment to verify they remain in working condition.
Use hand tools, power tools, or machine shop equipment to fabricate parts or modify tools.
Recommend changes to operational activities for tool and equipment repair work that will improve cost effectiveness.
Interface with other production shops or project managers to establish availability and scheduling of resources.

- Incumbent's work normally requires lifting and handling equipment weighting up to 20 pounds.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION.1) Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic technologies normally utilized in hand held power tools and other tools and equipment of similar complexity; 2) Ability to read and properly interpret blueprints and schematics and illustrated parts breakdown of tools and equipment stored and issued by the activity; 3) Skill in the operation of basic machine tools and power tools in order to make and/or repair parts for equipment serviced; and 4) Ability to use precision measurement equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, vernier calipers and various testing blocks and standards in order to ensure accuracy of parts dimensions and various gauging tools such as torque wrenches, etc., maintained in the tool room.
