About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The mission of the United States Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services based on Department of Defense (DoD) approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
**This is a TERM appointment. It is time-limited and may be extended beyond 6) years, up to 8 years.**
Duties
Communicate changes to the medical staff for input into agency-unique applicant database.
Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing and other professional staff in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.
Perform medical examinations to ascertain the extent of applicant conditions for decision regarding suitability of service.
Review the results of diagnostic testing for disqualifying issues.
Advise applicants to seek appropriate civilian medical care when a disqualifying condition requires further routine or emergency medical care.
Administer life saving measures in response to a medical emergency.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Written Inquiries
- Public Law 101-647, Section 321 and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094 require the successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check to maintain the position for which hired.
- Credentials must be submitted to HQ USMEPCOM J-7/MEMD Clinical Management Branch and approved by the Director.
- This position requires the applicant to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain the appropriate/relevant privileges.
- May require up to 25% temporary duty travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.
- Occasionally may be required to work on Saturdays; and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Maintains current certifications/licensure in a state, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- cont. Licensure may be waived if meeting the requirements set forth in DHA-PM 6025.13, Volume 4
- Successful completion of a training program for PAs recognized by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant and current certification by the NCCPA.
- Have passed the PA National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on Certification of PAs. Achieve and maintain recertification with the National Commission on Certification of PAs.
- Have successfully completed an educational program for PAs accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA or, prior to 2001, by either
- cont. the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes demonstrated demonstrated experience performing physical examinations and screenings, evaluating injuries and disorders, recording results in medical documentation, in order to determine applicant's fitness for duty. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
