This position is located within the USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Northeast Area, Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Facility Service, Operation Management Unit in Beltsville, MD. In this position, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, modifying, and repairing various types of electronically controlled systems and equipment.

Duties

Repair and upgrade specialized devices or electronic systems that monitor refrigerated or related equipment, structures, and systems. Install, maintain, and repair, Direct Digital Control (DDC) programming (or related) to protect various building control systems and save energy costs. Install, maintain, repair, and adjust building management systems include lighting, irrigation, and HVAC systems. Test fiber optic cables, termination, and modems when necessary to maintain network functionality. Use hand and power tools to install, maintain, and report electronic systems for a facility. Troubleshoot and maintain electronic office and laboratory equipment for facilities research and library programs and support services. Interpret diagrams, schematics or layout sheets in order to make appropriate repairs or suggestions for adjustments. Train personnel on proper care and use of the equipment.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 08/16/2023. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse-type or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Subject to injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns Physical Effort Receives work assignments in oral or written form from the supervisor or leader. Incumbent independently determines work sequence, selects test instruments, locates problems, and completes repairs. Makes operational tests of equipment to ensure proper operation. Work is spot checked by the supervisor to assure compliance with directives, specifications, and accepted trade practices
