THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC TITLE 32 PERMANENT, Position Description Number D2413000 and is part of the NH 157th Mission Support Group, National Guard. This vacancy is to gather applications that may or may not result in a referral or selection.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, and inspect heavy mobile equipment, various support equipment, and special purpose vehicles such as; fuel dispensing trucks, refueling equipment, crash/structural firefighting equipment and pump trucks, forklifts, materiel handling, aircraft cargo loaders, aircraft and equipment tow tractors, large runway snow removal vehicles, aircraft de-icing equipment, sweepers, bulldozers, mobile cranes, road graders, heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, backhoes, front end loaders, excavators, trenchers, and tactical/armored protected vehicles. The equipment may be commercial or military designed with diesel, gasoline, electric, hybrid electric, or other alternative fuel power and may have multiple engines. The work requires knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, parts, and systems work; ability to detect faulty items, determine causes of malfunction, and determine best repair methods; and skill to assemble, disassemble, repair, rebuild or modify components and a variety of interconnected systems. Repairs include; integrated electrical, electronics, air, fuel, and hydraulic systems; complex state-of-the-art electrical and electronic systems requiring specialized scan/diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions or to determine replacement of standard and computer controlled components.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
• Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
• Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to make repairs or the ability to assist with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems. It is not necessary for applicants to possess the MOS/AFSC listed as compatible to the position in order to apply, however applicant must meet the qualifications for the position. It is applicant's responsibility to acquire a compatible MOS/AFSC within 1 year of appointment. Coordinate with your unit's training representative to determine whether or not you can qualify for a specific MOS/AFSC and/or receive training within the 1 year timeframe before excepting the position.
