The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benet Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).

Duties

Performs visual, dimensional, functional and analytical inspections of a wide variety of industrial plant equipment (IPE) and related components and accessories to verify or determine operational and accuracy characteristics. Performs analytical and operational testing of machine tools as close as .000l of an inch. Inspects alignment accuracies. Inspects production equipment during tear down process and by visual and dimensional examination and insures that damaged, worn or deteriorated parts are removed and replaced with items meeting the original manufacturers specifications. Conducts a complete power and manual operation of all systems to determine correct functioning of mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical controls and devices Prepares reports and documents for all of the above. Inspects reassembled production equipment and observes test under power to insure that the equipment will sustain permissible dimensional tolerances. Evaluates, appropriateness and compliance with standards for cleaning, processing and preservation of equipment and the adequacy of supports and shrouding of equipment.

(3) Checks squareness, parallelism, flatness, pitch, run out, fit, end play and linear travel of complex mating machine tool components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop areas and unheated warehouse area. Works inside and outside of buildings in the storage area and is subject to inclement weather conditions. Works for prolonged periods in close quarters while performing maintenance/installation tasks.
