The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benet Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).
Duties
Performs visual, dimensional, functional and analytical inspections of a wide variety of industrial plant equipment (IPE) and related components and accessories to verify or determine operational and accuracy characteristics.
Performs analytical and operational testing of machine tools as close as .000l of an inch. Inspects alignment accuracies.
Inspects production equipment during tear down process and by visual and dimensional examination and insures that damaged, worn or deteriorated parts are removed and replaced with items meeting the original manufacturers specifications.
Conducts a complete power and manual operation of all systems to determine correct functioning of mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical controls and devices Prepares reports and documents for all of the above.
Inspects reassembled production equipment and observes test under power to insure that the equipment will sustain permissible dimensional tolerances.
Evaluates, appropriateness and compliance with standards for cleaning, processing and preservation of equipment and the adequacy of supports and shrouding of equipment.
Requirements

- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Production Machinery Inspector without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Perform visual, dimensional, functional, and analytical inspections of a wide variety of industrial plant equipment. (2) Performs analytical and operational testing of machine tools as close as .000l of an inch. Inspects alignment accuracies. (3) Checks squareness, parallelism, flatness, pitch, run out, fit, end play and linear travel of complex mating machine tool components. (4) Apply detailed knowledge of operating characteristics for various machinery, equipment, and system. - To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work performed requires incumbent to make movements and assume positions, such as standing, walking, crouching and stooping; incumbent is required to lift from light to moderately heavy loads and is subject to injury while lifting and when using various hand and power tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop areas and unheated warehouse area. Works inside and outside of buildings in the storage area and is subject to inclement weather conditions. Works for prolonged periods in close quarters while performing maintenance/installation tasks.
