About the Position: This is a WG-7404-06 Cook position with Army Medical Center William Beaumont, located in El Paso, Texas.
Duties
Organize work to meet established deadlines.
Operate food preparation equipment (for example, deep fryer, mixer, etc).
Operate and clean a wide variety of food service equipment, including special equipment for the preparation of large volume items.
Coordinate with cooking performed at different work centers.
Prepare meals using detailed cooking instructions.
Plan meal services to ensure available quantities of food and equipment.
Portion food according to nutritional standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. Such work includes a demonstrated experience performing regular and modified salad preparation tasks; preparing service stands; collecting and removing used dishes and utensils to dishwashing area; preparing sandwich items for the short order line. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Position requires constant standing and walking on hard surfaces, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing pulling and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The physical effort described in the standard is the same for all levels of cooks.
Working Conditions: Incumbent performs duties in kitchen area that is well lighted but often hot and noisy. Exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerator/freezer from kitchen area. Is exposed to possible dangers ranging from falling/slipping on wet floors; cuts from slicing, dicing, and shredding devices; and burns from steam, hot foods, hot pans, stoves, griddles, and grease. The working conditions described in the standard are the same for all levels of cooks.
