The Secretary (OA) position is located within the Surgical Service at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KC VAMC). Incumbent is a vital member of the Surgery team and assists the Service Chief in providing outstanding administrative service to our veterans and their families.
Duties
Major duties of the position include:
Public Contact Work: Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the phone, referring visitors, or providing information about the office, its functions, and standard operating procedures.
Mail, Correspondence and Reports: Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.
Maintaining Calendars, Appointments and Schedules: Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings and/or schedules conferences.
Office Supplies & Equipment: Obtains and monitors the use of services, supplies or equipment for the office.
Timekeeping: Responsible for accurate timekeeping for the service line.
Data Collection & Tracking Support: Performs work involving the collection, compilation and/or tracking of data and statistical information.
Research Program Support: Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resources/materials to support the policy development and/or technical activities.
Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 1530 p.m. Monday - Friday

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/17/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: provides a full range of administrative support to a senior manager to include prioritizing and processing requests, transcription, etc.; researches, analyzes, collects, compiles and tracks data and/or statistical information in support of program operations; develops correspondence, presentations, reports, etc. independently utilizing software applications such as Microsoft office suite; plans, coordinates, and advises on office workflow to resolve operating problems; effectively communicates with internal and external contacts. OR,
Education: There is no educational substitution for the GS- 06 level, however applicants with a graduate degree in a directly related field may be considered. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work
