You will serve as a PHYSICAL FITNESS SPECIALIST in the Commander, Navy Region Naval District Washington (CNRNDW) of NSA WASHINGTON.

Duties

You will instruct classes within or outside the fitness facility demonstrating proper form, breathing techniques, and use of equipment. You will monitor participant(s) safety during sessions and classes. You will write instructions and procedures for client sessions and group classes including general fitness information, safety rules, and correct use of all equipment for fitness training and self-monitored progress. You will submit marketing request for flyers and distribute accordingly once received. You will train staff based on organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must possess current certification from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCAA) accredited health and fitness organization.
  • Must possess current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, and First Aid Certification.
  • Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional training per year effectively reflecting to updating skills, improving job performance, and maintaining any required job-related certifications.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Overseeing daily tasks of a fitness center including maintenance tasks, equipment cleaning, and the training of new staff to ensure effectiveness of operations; 2) Designing personal training and group exercise sessions based on fitness test results, client goals, and current fitness trends to allow participation of clients at multiple fitness levels; and 3) Maintaining monthly logs detailing clients and number of sessions to prepare and provide functional reports for supervisor review. EDUCATION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

SUBSITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE
Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
or
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
