About the Position: Ft. Meade is located between two major cities, Baltimore and Washington D.C., and approximately 11 minutes from an International Airport. Ft. Meade is a hub for the joint services, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines & Navy. In addition to many recreational activities, you can tour the historical sites of Annapolis; visit the White House in Washington, D.C.; or attend a football, basketball or baseball game with one of professional and college teams in the area.

Duties

Serves as a Lead Security Guard assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. This position functions as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access. Responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction. Determine fitness and grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrate a need to access the installation. Provide support to the Antiterrorism/Force Protection by providing the emergency base closure, active shooter response, antiterrorism measure, physical security emergency response and active physical deterrent against criminal/terrorist activities. Makes daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques, and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • One-year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • A medical examination is required. Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 ?The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program?.
  • Possession of a valid state driver?s license is required. Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver?s license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) apply. Employee/prospective employee are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; when being considered for employment/periodically thereafter, they must be assessed for meeting the IRP.
  • Shift work or a change in work shift may be required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required and subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter. All training/qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56 ?The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program?.
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installation?s overall security response capability. Duties and training required may require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, or other protective equipment, and be certified in use of aerosol irritants and baton. Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of protective masks/over garments.
  • Must maintain physical conditioning and pass annual physical agility tests (PAT) IAW Army Reg 190-56-Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program. Failure to meet the standard after 2nd attempt within a 90-day period will result in separation.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
