This position is located within the Division of Clinical Services, Emergency Medicine Branch, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock Service Unit. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Medical expert within the specialty area of Emergency Medicine and in particular within the ED fast track hereby known as the SuperTrack. The incumbent assumes responsibility for program development, provision of quality care in the evaluation, diagnosis, care and management of patients

Duties

Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and performs diagnostic tests and examinations. Makes preliminary diagnoses, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Provides urgent and emergency care as required in fast track setting and in main emergency department as needed. Responds to acute urgent and emergent interventions, working closely in consultation with members of other medical departments as deemed appropriate by the clinical problem. Promotes training needs of all direct care staff within the Super-Track to ensure staff development and competency. Coordinates educational and mentoring programs. Collaborates and coordinates with the NAIHS and other regional providers/supervisors via conference calls and scheduled meetings on standardizing policies and procedures, planning and implementing Area-wide performance improvement measures and The Joint Commission (TJC) preparation and other professional issues. Supervisory positions will provide administrative and technical guidance to subordinates. Performs other duties as assigned. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Basic Requirements All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant(external link) (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(external link) (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education(external link) (CME) and re-certification. Licensure:For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) and above Grade Level A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-13: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assitant equivalent to the GS-12 grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant education program is required.Experience: obtaining medical history, performing examinations, prescribing medication, and determining appropriate medical treatment. Note: must possess current Medical License for a Physician Assistant and at least three to five years of experience in Emergency Medicine. Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision , as required for this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
