Duties
As a Biological Science Technician, your duties will be to plan and inspect contracted TES surveys and conduct surveys of wildlife and their habitat for Field Office projects using established protocols analyze the data and report the findings.
Coordinate Field Office projects for wildlife habitat improvement or protection. Review forestry, watershed, and fuels reduction project proposals for compatibility with wildlife needs.
Independently conduct habitat assessment data collection and use established wildlife protocols. Coordinate daily schedules and workloads, aid in the survey of threatened and endangered wildlife and habitat data in the field.
Identify survey requirements and equipment needed in accordance with approved protocols and verify accuracy of data collected in the field and compiles results.
Utilize word processing, spreadsheets, Geographical Information System, and Global Position System to plan surveys, collect, organize, and summarize data.
Effectively communicate with Field Office staff to discuss issues discovered during the course of field surveys related to other disciplines such as ingress/egress, road conditions, etc.

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Examples of specialized experience may include researching, compiling and tabulating a full range of wildlife inventory data; leading or conducting field inventories of wildlife species to develop intensive scientific information; and collecting ecological site information for sensitive, threatened or endangered wildlife.

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate/ graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Physical Demands/Work Environments: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking/hiking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated that may also be steep, wet and muddy. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to perform the work of the position, this includes tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods away from a vehicle. Work while in the office is performed in adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. Fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals including poison oak.
Education
If qualifying based on education, you will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. If your degree is from a Foreign Institution
