Duties

You will educate, connect, and empower international and U.S. leaders and security practitioners on Arctic and climate security challenges and opportunities. You will make positive contributions to a collegial, team-centric working environment based on core values of transparency, mutual respect, and inclusion. You will create and present executive education content that spurs discussion, reflection, and learning among the program participants. You will facilitate objective-based discussions among fellows that encourage consolidation of learning and critical reasoning. You will contribute to distinguished visitor engagements with subject matter expertise. You will perform various administrative and institutional duties to support the executive education functions of the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies. You will develop, manage, coordinate, conduct, and assess all aspects of engagements, including on-line and in-person courses, workshops, and partnerships.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

International Policy/Security: Demonstrated successful experience teaching international studies, political science, and/or economics. Preferred areas of expertise include the Department of Defense, international Arctic political institutions, international agreements, economic security, international partnerships, and Arctic policies. Having a working knowledge and understanding of US-NATO Alliances, US-Partner nation collaboration, EU, UN, and Nordic/Scandinavian Arctic policies and programs will help drive curriculum development that includes: Shaping internal and international thinking regarding Arctic security and defense. Advancing understanding and professional development of security practitioners (both for military and civilian personnel) on a wide array of NATO related security topics. Evaluating developing Arctic issues and initiatives through the study of international policy and standards, overseas developments, and reports. Studies of the risk/threat and use of force by states, substate actors, and coalitions. Examination of the intersection of emerging technologies and global affairs through the lens of both international relations and scientific and technological innovation. Developing rational thought that supports Arctic governance and rules-based order. Degree (minimum of a Master's degree with preference of a Doctorate degree) in National/International Security, Strategy, Intelligence or equivalent experience. Proven ability teaching and seminar facilitation at the postsecondary level. Proven expert experience developing and delivering course curriculum. General understanding of U.S. National Security and Defense. Expert knowledge of the Arctic and its complexities including history, geography, environment, politics, economics, population, demographics, and culture. Ability to collaborate with peers, leadership, and subordinates. Basic Requirements
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
