Duties

As a Biologist (Direct Hire), you will: Perform various techniques to rapidly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases. Identify methods and procedures to collect data, and conduct experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the course of the studies or experiments. Acquire and organize materials and information to carry out study procedures for assigned projects. Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to independently perform tests, analyses and other procedures in conducting experiments and studies. Prepare and deliver written and oral reports to a variety of individuals and groups in both informal and formal settings.

Requirement continued: Current or Former Political Appointees: Agencies must seek prior approval from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, or Non-career SES employee in the executive branch, you MUST disclose that to the Human Resources Office. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service. Current or Former Political Appointees: Submit SF-50. Basic Qualifications: I have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR I have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: I have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience in performing biological science work or biological support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with laboratory examination of biological agents. OR I have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of the position. OR I have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
