About the Position: Serves as Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Manager for the Memphis District. Manages and administers the SOH Program. Formulates District policies and provides direction by issuing regulations, standards, and technical guidance. Manages surveys, evaluations, studies, audits and accident investigation/ reporting. Serves as the District technical authority on SOH.

Duties

Managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.

GS-13 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes providing Safety & Occupational Health support to an organization, including performance of activities such as risk assessments and surveys, hazards analysis, organization safety training, and ensuring operations or contractor compliance with safety guidance and regulations; surveillance over safety program to ensure elimination and control of hazards where deficiencies are found; and supervision and/or leadership experience, or experience directing or leading teams.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes managing safety or occupational health program elements, designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards, and developing and/or recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
