This position is part of the USFWS National Wildlife Refuge System. As a Supervisory Park Ranger (Visitor Services Manager) you will be responsible for managing the Visitor Service's program at one of the following stations:
Decatur, Alabama

Duties
As a Visitor Services Manager your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Analyze and review new and/or existing programs for gaps to determine the need for improvement.
Interpret and implement visitor services policy and legislation.
Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures relevant to managing and operating a youth employment/environmental education program.
Use knowledge of the principles of wildlife management, natural resource conservation, and/or public recreation management to contribute to public lands administration and set priorities.
Assist in organizing briefings and presentations for managers, staff, and other partners on refuge program initiatives.
Communicate to public land users the laws and regulations pertaining to use of public land and its resources, explain the organization's mission, and encourage support of natural resource protection.
Communicate verbally with large groups, media and others on controversial and complex matters.
Communicate with others effectively either verbally or in writing when working out solutions to problems or collaborating work projects.

- Supervisory Probationary Period: Selectees who have not previously completed a supervisory probationary period, will be required to serve a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period for this position.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 08/14/2023 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.
Minimum Qualification [GS-12]
One (1) year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal government that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Such experience would include: 1) planning, administering, and managing visitor services activities; 2) creating and implementing new recreational and/or educational opportunities, programs and services for visitors: 3) ensuring that visitor facilities and programs meet all regulatory requirements (safety, accessibility, historical preservation, etc.) and programmatic goals and objectives; 4) managing a Natural Resource or Public Land's program budget and ensuring proper use of funds; 5) developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with the public, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies to promote the programs/services of a park/refuge and/or to partner on collaborative projects. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically,
i. Area of Consideration.
ii. Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as specified in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502.
iv. Qualification requirements outlined in OPM's Qualifications Standards for General Schedule Positions or for Federal Wage System (FWS), wage grade positions, applicants are evaluated using the OPM Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations and the job element examining method
