About the Position: This Industrial Hygiene Technician position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center Preventive Medicine Service with Industrial Hygiene Section, El Paso, Texas.

Duties
Responsible for the execution of an industrial hygiene program at a large installation engaged in varied manufacturing, maintenance and/or storage activities of a heterogeneous nature.
Reviews installation programs, operating methods and changes, to identify the extent to which these programs, methods or changes may cause new health hazards.
Make sound recommendations regarding engineering controls required to bring facilities and equipment into compliance with current regulation and applicable Federal and state statutes.
Coordinates, schedules and conducts regular inspections.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One- year probationary period may be required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has been designated as a Drug Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
- Require heavy physical exertion, including extensive bending, lifting, climbing, stooping, and working in cramped areas with potentially inadequate heating, lighting, and ventilation.
- Incumbent observes safety guidelines and wears protective equipment to minimize safety hazards; and duties require incumbent to operate a government motor vehicle to travel throughout the installation while making inspections.
- Duties require moderate unassisted lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to forty four pounds.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; and/or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects; collecting/monitoring exposure data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; and/or monitoring exposure data to assess environmental conditions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections and preparing reports using automated systems; evaluating potential health hazards to recommend mitigating courses of action; and/or training employees in safety or occupational health subjects.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.
