You will serve as an INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS SPECIALIST with the US Indo-Pacific Command. The position is located in Strategic Planning and Policy Directorate (J5), Northeast Asia Policy Division (J51). The duty station is Camp HM Smith, HI.
Duties
You will serve as the Taiwan and Cross Strait Relations Director
You will advise on policy matters pertaining to political-military affairs, competition with the People?s Republic of China (PRC), and cross strait issues with Taiwan, the PRC, Hong Kong, and Macau
You will provide detailed analysis, summaries, and recommendations pertaining to the formulation, coordination, and execution of national policy in the USINDOPACOM area of responsibility
You will develop USINDOPACM positions on political-military issues involving the U.S.-Peoples Republic of China and the U.S. ? Taiwan security relationships
You will analyze and assess current INDOPACOM policy in order to ensure relevancy
You will develop regional security policies and military strategy
You will advise and assist CDRUSINDOPACOM and senior INDOPACOM staff to support high level military and defense talks with China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong
You will develop and provide briefings, read ahead materials, information papers, talking points and analyses for USINDOPACOM staff, senior leaders and others
Requirements

- Regional travel is required, typically consisting of up to one week every other month.

- Crisis action operations can require long hours of concentrated effort, sometimes on short notice at nights and weekends.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position (listed in the Education section of this recruitment), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional International Relations Specialist using comprehensive knowledge of geopolitical, socio-economic, and/or military operations within Northeast Asia, particularly the People's Republic of China and Taiwan to perform the following:
1) Formulating or advising on positions related to national security and/or regional military strategies specifically to the Northeast Asia region:
2) Developing, implementing, and/or advising on regional strategy and new policies based on analysis of current policies;
3) Developing recommendations and/or providing assessments to senior personnel related to security strategy and objectives;
4) Planning, initiating, coordinating and/or executing research projects, workshops, and events for decision-makers at the highest government agency, inter-agency, and/or private sector or academic levels.
5) Planning, control and evaluation methods for organizational resources, programs, policies, and operations.

Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must:
Have successfully completed a bachelor's or high degree with a major or equivalent, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major that included at least 24 semester hours in international law and international relations, political science, economics, history, sociology, geography, social or cultural anthropology, law, statistics, or in the humanities, plus four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs or additional education; or 12 semester hours in one of the above disciplines and 12 semester hours in statistics/quantitative methods, plus addition education or appropriate experience gained through residence, study, teaching, business or commercial activities, military service, newspaper work, military or civil government activities, missionary or inter-national relief work, or other experience in foreign countries. (Experience may also have been gained through teaching college-level courses in international relations or problems associated with a specific foreign geographic area).
OR
Have at least four years of appropriate experience in one or more of the fields listed above in work associated with international organizations, problems, or other aspects of foreign affairs.
