You will serve as a SHIP OPERATOR in the Port Operations Office of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY.

Duties

You will perform work involved in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and installing marine engines and other equipment. You will serve as crewmember of vessels during vessel operations. You will maneuver the tugboat alongside vessels to assist in berthing You will direct and provide guidance to subordinates pertaining to tugboat operations.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Performing maintenance and upkeep of diesel engines and associated machinery installed on tug boats; 2) Troubleshooting and repairing auxiliary systems, generators, pumps and firefighting equipment aboard water vessels; 3) Utilizes "Rules of the Road" and basic navigation principles to operate tugboats.
