You will serve as a Woodworker Supervisor in the packing branch of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO located at the Fleet Logistic Center Site, Ventura County.

Duties

You will construct a full range of containers with complex bracing to ship or store assemblies involving complex construction problems and bracing requirements for large and unbalanced equipment. You will operate woodworking machines when varied and complex construction features are required. You will use and maintain tools and equipment, particularly woodworking tools, to ensure smooth operations. You will effectively direct and supervise a workforce made up of packers, woodworkers, and a woodworker leader engaged in the receipt, packing and stowing of materials. You will develop bracing points based on weight of an item and method of shipment to prevent shifting or damage in transit or storage. You will be responsible for task assignment, prioritization, and distribution among the team, as well as providing guidance, setting the pace, and working alongside the workers. You will be responsible for preparing containers with appropriate bracing for shipment and maintaining accurate packing data and status reports. You will possess knowledge of hazardous material classes, divisions, and compatibility to ensure the proper identification, packaging, and certification of hazardous material shipments.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise: 1)Constructing containers with complex bracing to ship or store assemblies involving construction problems and bracing requirements for large and unbalanced equipment; 2)Preparing containers with appropriate bracing for shipment; ensuring plans, blueprints, material and tools are available; 3)Requesting materials and consumable supplies as needed for daily operations of the branch and coordinate with other codes within the department to obtain required material and services; 4)Maintaining a balanced workload between subordinates, making adjustments as needed and when necessary to accomplish the work;5)Training new employees on proper techniques and practices in setting up machinery and equipment operations, giving instruction in the use of power tools, material and measuring devices used in packing, repair and/or manufacture of shipping and storage containers.
