This position is at the Northern Cheyenne Service Unit located in Lame Deer, Montana. This position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor. This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19.

Duties

Withdraws blood by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture; collects appropriate specimen for laboratory testing according to established procedures. Sets up, operates and/or utilizes appropriate equipment, instruments, containers and other devices and materials to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances. Interprets and evaluates results of tests/examinations in process and upon completion in order to recognize anticipated reactions and departures. Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory tests/examinations per requests by Medical Staff for use in clinical diagnosis, patient screening, monitoring patient therapy and status and other authorized purposes.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-4: 6 months general experience and 6 months specialized experience OR Education and/or Training described below. GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 OR Education and/or Training described below. GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: For positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. -- OR -- Education and Training For GS-4: Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Example of specialized experience for GS-4: Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations; set up collection trays with supplies necessary for collection of blood and other specimens. Example of specialized experience for GS-5: Perform standardized tests and examinations; follow written procedures in providing instructions on each step of the assigned test and examination including the techniques, procedures, stains, reagents, chemicals, temperatures, measurements, controls to use and observe, machine settings, etc. Example of specialized experience for GS-6: Determine correct blood specimen for tests ordered; adhere to quality control procedures to validate accuracy of tests and analyses; operate equipment, instruments and other devices to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances. Example of specialized experience for GS-7: Provide instruction to patients; set up, operate, and utilize equipment, instruments, containers, and other devices; interpret and evaluate test/examination results; blood withdrawal by vein punctures and capillary puncture; prepare reports of findings. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
