This position is located in the Environmental Management Services (EMS) at VA Nebraska Western Iowa HCS. The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is responsible for exercising technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis
Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities
Assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision
Planning daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities
Training staff and ensuring that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel
Providing on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate and special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies
Keeping subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies
Ensuring all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues
Approving leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants
Making formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct
Rearranging work schedules during remodeling, painting and relocation of offices, clinics or patient wards and other duties which help coordinate moves
Inspecting assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner
Performing quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment
Providing documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work
Reviewing procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision
Performing within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy
Working independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary
Ensuring time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper
Performing other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Other: all 3 are weekend supervisor positions. 1 day shift 0700-1530, 1 second shift 1530-mid, and 1 third shift mid-0830 and it is Wed-Sun for all 3.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
