These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Pay and Personnel Center, Operations Division in Topeka, KS. 

Duties

You will be responsible for military or retired pay and personnel processes for the U.S. Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Public Health Service members.

Requirements

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are: -Calculating pay entitlements, and inputting appropriate transactions to credit or debit the member’s pay account. -Researching pay or payroll accounts. -Responding to routine inquiries concerning payroll matters. -Researching leave inquiries. -Processing routine personnel actions. You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are: -Calculating pay entitlements, and inputting appropriate transactions to credit or debit the member’s pay account. -Assisting with reviewing garnishments, indebtedness and/or collection transactions to ensure they follow regulations. -Reviewing income tax levy notices or court-ordered payments. -Assisting with adjusting leave accounts. -Assisting with correcting pay accounts. -Assisting with determining total creditable service for retirement or other purposes. -Assisting with processing a full range of personnel actions. -Assisting with payments of claims or allotments of pay to a spouse or ex-spouse. -Assisting with verifying that transaction are mathematically accurate, contain proper accounting data, and are in compliance with federal laws and regulations. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
