Duties

You will review technical documents for compliance to specification requirements. You will observe shipyard lab and shipboard testing. You will observe obvious deviation in readings or test data to ascertain possible cause(s). You will review technical analysis and engineering rationale using various engineering sciences and arithmetic computations. You will write various types of correspondence to convey the results of your technical analysis.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may require occasionally to perform regular duties in the test facilities or onboard ships under construction which require climbing, bending, and crawling into space restricted areas.
  • This position is normally performed in an office environment, at a test facility, in submarines, or in the shipyard.
  • There may be recurring exposure to discomforts such as temperature extremes, noise, fumes, welding flashes, adverse weather or construction hazards typical of those in the shipbuilding industry, when at the submarine construction site.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your application must provide sufficient documentation showing you possess the required educational level needed to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. To qualify for the GS-04 Level: You must have successfully completed two full years of post-high school academic study, or an associate's degree, or anticipate such completion by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for the GS-03 Level: You must have successfully completed one full year of post-high school academic study, or anticipate such completion by the closing date of this announcement. Education

Program Requirements:

Students must be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program at an institution of higher education as defined in 20 U.S.C. ? 1001. A full-time academic program is defined by the individual institution. Students must have completed at least one full year of their academic program prior to appointment. Students must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and making satisfactory progress towards the receipt of a bachelor's or graduate degree. At the time of application, students must provide proof of full-time academic enrollment and academic standing as well as a copy of their transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

Prior to the start date, the student must provide an official set of school transcripts. Individuals must meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements throughout the duration of the appointment and are required to provide up-to-date transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) at the end of each trimester, semester, or quarter, which include grades for the previous term, unless requested more frequently by the supervisor or HR office for verification of enrollment and academic standing as proof of continued eligibility for participation in the program. Students who fail to meet and maintain eligibility requirements may result in termination.

The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree or higher with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.
