Duties

(Continuation from Summary) This is a developmental position with known promotion potential starting from the GS-07 to the next higher grade which is the GS-09 until reaching the target GS-0170-11, Historian. Incumbent works closely with supervisor in performing duties until reaching the full performance. All training must be completed, and regulatory requirements met prior to promotion to the next higher grade. Summary for GS-07: The primary purpose of this position is to manage and conduct the installation History Program. Applies professional knowledge for the coordination of historical activities, maintains and adds to the installation's archives through the production of narrative summaries on the mission, completes special studies on subjects that affect the mission, and serves as the installation's technical authority and advisor for all professional aspects of the USAF History, Museum, Heraldry, and Art Programs. Summary for GS-09: The primary purpose of this position is to provide a developmental position within the History office. The position will assist the Wing Historian in serving as a historical advisor through the management of an archive, conducting outreach to the unit's squadrons, and producing heritage displays. The individual will create historical products and maintain the unit's archive pertaining to mission and special studies. Work typically involves critical analysis of large, complex, major projects and is characterized by the need for substantial problem analysis. Summary for GS-11:The primary purpose of this position is to manage the installation History Program. Apply knowledge for the coordination of historical activities and maintain the archives through the production of narrative summaries on the mission, completes special studies and installation's technical authority and advisor for the USAF History, Museum, Heraldry, and Art Programs. Duties Duties for GS-07: Establishes, updates, and maintains Wing Archive Conducts research and utilizes pertinent data to draft responses to inquiry and produce historical products. Uses varied functions of multiple office automation and publisher layout software to produce a wide range of outreach materials and heritage displays for Squadrons. Manages Wing Emblem and Heritage program through maintaining emblem database and correspondence with all squadron leadership. Duties for GS-09 and GS-11: Researches, writes, and collects documents to manage the installation's history program. Creates special studies and other historical products. Answers queries and conducts outreach. Manages the AF heraldry program.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. or Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures to produce a wide range of documents. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; Or I have a bachelor's degree in education, or a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Ability to collect, organize, and interrelate large amounts of diversely formatted data drawn from a wide variety of sources and in preparing a narrative that presents a balanced and realistic picture of the subject. 5. Ability to critically evaluate sources of information and establish validity of historical facts. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports. Knowledge of format, rules, procedures and operations applicable to clerical assignments to prepare/review routine correspondence/reports, screen telephone calls and visitors, maintain files/records, review and process mail, and perform clerical procedures to arrange a variety of material from different sources and other administrative work of organization. 6. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
