Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Major duties listed but not limited to: Troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, modifying, installing, testing and inspecting of all electrical devices, systems, components and other electrical equipment Reads amperage, tests phase rotation, and frequency requirements, to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; fire alarm system; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls; AC and DC rectification systems Install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in transformer vaults, and/or distribution centers Pull in conductors, phase out and connect conductors. Troubleshoot distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operation Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls that support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads Operates, tests, troubleshoots and repairs emergency and stand by generator power systems, tests automatic transfer switches, completes all required paperwork associated with the emergency and standby generation system Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm (Work hours may be further discussed during interview) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/21/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in inclement weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding, boom trucks, lifts or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as crawl spaces, above ceilings, tunnels, confined spaces and attics. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors; and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises .
