Duties

Assist in providing informational and academic advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing undergraduate/graduate, vocational, technical and professional development opportunities at various levels. Processes requests for tuition assistance. Coordinates and schedules classroom use for both academic institutions and military organizational requirements. Provides customer support, assistance, training, orientation and performs miscellaneous administrative duties.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of education and training policies, programs and processes relating On-the-Job Training (OJT), Career Development Courses (CDG) administration, and DOD education policies, programs and processes. Knowledge of various office automation and Air Force data systems as they pertain to training and education data management such as but not limited to: Air Force Automated Education Management Systems (AFAEMS), Military Personnel Data Systems (MilPDS), Course Development Student Administration Registrar (CDSAR), Air University Student Information System (AUSIS), and Air Force Files Information Management System (AFRIMS). Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis. Knowledge of selecting, administering, and interpreting standard tests and interest inventories to properly advise program participants on their vocational aptitudes and interests and their educational strengths and weaknesses. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of education and training policies, programs and processes relating On-the-Job Training (OJT), Career Development Courses (CDG) administration, and DOD education policies, programs and processes. 2. Knowledge of various office automation and Air Force data systems as they pertain to training and education data management such as but not limited to: Air Force Automated Education Management Systems (AFAEMS), Military Personnel Data Systems (MilPDS), Course Development Student Administration Registrar (CDSAR), Air University Student Information System (AUSIS), and Air Force Files Information Management System (AFRIMS). 3. Ability to plan and organize work independently. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, using tact and courtesy. Skill in preparing written forms, schedules and reports relating to base training and education programs. 4. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions, which are directly applicable to the work. 5. Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis. 6. Working Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures to distribute mail, answer telephones, keep appointment calendar, maintain files/office forms and order supplies. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
