You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT (OA) at the U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY.

Duties

You will administer the security control and storage measures to protect classified material in accordance with Department of the Navy rules, regulations, directives and instruction. You will use a full range of functions of word processing software and database applications to produce documents and reports. You will determine individual's eligibility for a security clearance based on position or scope of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Processing security-related documents per federal rules, regulations, and procedures; 2) Collecting, tabulating, and preparing routine and non-routine reports while ensuring proper grammar and free of errors; 3) Operating office automation systems to create security-related documents and spreadsheets, in addition to tracking security clearance requests (i.e., background investigations, re-investigations, and fingerprints); and 4) Applying personnel security principles and concepts while working independently and maintaining facility personnel security program. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
