You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Directorate of Public Health Services of NMRTC CHERRY POINT NC.
Duties
You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations.
You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination; noise and other physical stressors as well as quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.
You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies.
You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns.
You will document shops processes, Similar Exposure Groups (SEG), and samples in the DoD designated database.
You will provide on-the-job technical guidance to on-site junior industrial hygienist and industrial hygiene technician in carrying out inspections, surveys and samplings.
Requirements

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
- The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an ?on call? basis, necessary to meet ashore or afloat mission requirements.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate:
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Implementing concepts, principles, and practices, applicable to planning and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs.
Assisting to recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood.
Planning a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, and change in work procedures.
Assisting to evaluate proposed work processes, materials, and facilities to recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
Investigating health problems which arise among workers to determine probable cause and to recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Conducting industrial hygiene surveys to assess the potential health risk to workers exposed to chemical and physical stressors in the workplace;
Conducting sampling of conditions to determine if there is exposure to potential hazardous materials;
Developing control measures that allow compliance with restrictive policies;
Creating final reports that include findings, evaluations, and recommendations for the control of hazardous conditions.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
Have successfully completed Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science that was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable)
OR
Have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The degree was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable).
OR
Have a Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
GS-11: COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
