About the Position: Serves as Museum Specialist (History) to assist in the administration and curatorial operations of the Army Museum Enterprise entities on Fort Gregg-Adams. Performs a full range of duties to include day-to-day collections care and other projects related to museum operations. The collections include historical properties, weapons systems, munitions, archives (to include photographs), and art.

Duties

Serve as a Museum Specialist working for the Collections Manager assisting in registration and physical maintenance of historical artifacts in the museum collections. Stores properties such as artifacts, photographs, documents, and various objects in accordance with proper preservation and conservation procedures. Serves on exhibit teams and assists with planning and building museum exhibits. Ensures artifacts are physically protected and displayed using appropriate conservation materials and techniques.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.

To qualify for this position you must meet the qualification or education requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing research of museum artifacts; performing conservation duties related to museum artifacts such as storing, documenting and performing preservation procedures; conducting inventories of museum artifacts and maintaining data records on historical artifacts to ensure proper handling and care. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Successful completion a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Museum Studies, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. Compute the percentage of the requirements met, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.
